Merry Christmas to all our members and their families, thank you for all the support you have given the club throughout the year. This year, Christmas and New Year is going to be so strange, not seeing all your friends at the club but I am sure when we do get together we will have a right good Knees up.

From all the team
Merry Christmas
Stay safe and we hope to see you soon

COVID UPDATE DECEMBER 2020

Following the Government’s imposed lockdown of one month Calderdale was placed into

Tier 3 restrictions. The club is therefore closed and the only activity that can legitimately

continue is the winter bowling league. It is an outdoor organised sporting event. All other

activities are therefore prohibited. A review is scheduled to take place mid December but

it is unlikely that Calderdale will be downgraded to Tier 1. The reality for the club is that it

will not now reopen until the New Year when the Government relaxes restrictions. The five

day lifting of restrictions over the Christmas period does not apply to clubs, pubs etc.

Thanks to the generosity of members and the work of the Committee our financial

position is sound. The Club will be in a position to reopen just as soon as the current

restrictions are lifted. A further update will be issued in due course to keep members up

to date including the payment of subs and the renewal of membership.

The Committee wishes all our members a Happy Christmas and best wishes for a more

normal 2021.

Hove Edge  Bowling & Social club

Update July 2020

The club has been open now for a couple of weeks. Things are not back to how they were before the lockdown but we are open! The measures put in place to ensure the health and safety of the staff and members are working extremely well. Everyone is cooperating with the measures although every now and again the odd mistake is made. It is difficult to remember after many years coming and going that there is a one way system in operation. It would be helpful if members could use a contactless bank card when paying for their drinks at the bar. This reduces the chance of passing on the virus even further. If you can’t that’s ok cash is still acceptable! I think all those who have visited the club will confirm it is a safe place to come and have sometime with your friends once again. Please remember when you come to sign in and out on the record sheet in the entrance. The concern of privacy regarding the details on this sheet have been addressed so that no personal information is required other than your name and times in and out. The club holds all your contact details and are available if required.

Unfortunately reopening the club does not bring to an end all our challenges. There is a cost to reopening and all our costs, staff and running expenses, have once again returned to those prior to the lockdown but our income has not. Our takings are not yet up to a level where they cover our outgoings. The cancellation of the bowling season is having an affect across the bar as too is the lack of live music and the reduced capacity of the concert room. However, every effort is being made to ensure the club continues to provide its facilities in the future. Saturday night has its bingo and a fun quiz, Sunday night has its bingo and the Tuesday Quiz is returning. Hopefully this will help. A number of picnic style benches have been donated so that those who would like to enjoy a drink on a sunny afternoon can do so. All we need now is the sunshine!

Behind the scenes our accountant has been working very hard examining our accounts over the past few years and in particular the amount of VAT paid. This has revealed a number of errors in the clubs favour and there is an on-going dialogue with HMRC to establish if there is the possibility of a refund. HMRC are extremely busy at the moment with other issues so any refund has not been forthcoming but our discussions with them will continue and hopefully they will bear fruit.

It would be helpful if those members receiving this update via email could pass on the information to any members that they know who don’t have internet access or haven’t provided the Club Secretary with an email address. It is not practical or cost effective to send out this information through the post.

Thank you once again to all those members who have supported the Management Committee with their very generous donations. Until the financial situation returns to a similar level to that before lockdown this backup reserve will provided a buffer for any unexpected expenses. The Management Committee hope to see you in the club sometime soon. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns.
