Final games Thursday 27th February 2020

We were under pressure to complete the program as green renovations were due to start on 2nd March.

We had to allocate average scores for the Tuesday games which were washed out with the persistent rain.

The final games played on a Thursday were re=arranged from November but threw up some interesting ties.

In the Shield, previous winners Nomads and Crosshills were tied and were scheduled to play each other which became the title decider.

In the Plate Greetland were bouncing straight back to the Shield comp after being relegated the previous season. The second place was up for grabs though as Lindley and Mirfield OB. were level on points.

Phil Holroyd - Nomads Captain and team mate James Senior who won the average prize.

The deciding game didn’t disappoint but Nomads successfully defended their title with a 14-13 win over Crosshills, both teams having two winners.

Greetland The Plate Winners

Greetland wrapped up the title with a final day win over Asa Briggs.

The runners up spot was filled by Mirfield OB by the narrowest of margins as they beat Cleckheaton 17-7 while Lindley were drawing 16-16 with Pellon.

The Plate average prize went to Gordon Bradford of Greetland who just pipped Mel Straddling of Mirfield on the last day.

A big thank you to everyone for supporting Hove Edge again this winter.

Final Saturday - 22nd February 2020

On a showery and blustery day the final games of the season were played, in the Vase Shipley Club already had the title won baring a disaster and their two game double header against Drighlington and Moldgreen provided maximum points for them to win the league with points to spare.

Runners up spot was much tighter and went to the wire. Last years winners Mytholmroyd finished with a maximum twenty points, while rivals Hanging Heaton, themselves previous winners, were going down 17-15 to Mirfield. When the dust settled they were level on points but Heaton took the runners up spot courtesy of having more wins through the season than Mytholmroyd.

The relegation places were filled by All Stars, who have found it tough following promotion, and Drighlington.

The Victorious Shipley Team

The individual average winners prize went to the last match of the season with Dave Bland of Shipley just getting the nod. Spare a thought though for Moldgreen’s Andy Hoult who led the table with an eleven match unbeaten run only to lose his last two games, one of which was to Bland enabling him to take the prize.

In the Saturday Trophy Oxenhope took the title following a last match battle with runners up Hit & Miss, Oxenhope winning the game 16-10 and the title only decided with this last day game. Oxenhope should hold their own in the Vase next season.

The Oxenhope Team with their Trophy.

The individual average prize went to David Hemsley of Oxenhope who was the only player from both Saturday and Tuesday competitions who went all season undefeated and also played in every game.

Congratulations to all the winners and a big thank you to all who have participated this winter and supported our competition.

Saturday 4th January

The Winter League resumed this weekend after the Christmas and New Year break, pick of the Vase games looked to be defending Champions, Mytholmroyd, against this years leaders, Shipley Club.

Paul Fisher, who went five games unbeaten before dropping back to earth with a single figure score in his last game before Christmas, was drawn against Chris Bedford himself unbeaten in six. In a close game as expected Bedford kept his record in tact with a hard fought 21-18 victory.

Dave Warburton against Paul Wilczynski promised another close game and we were not disappointed as local lad Wilczynski came home with maximum points but Warburton claimed four points as he carded twenty in defeat.

Scott McHugh could only reach sixteen against Mike Gadd and Barbara Warburton found Dave Bland too strong going down 21-8.

Shipley taking bragging rights 20–11 but Mytholmroyd can quickly put it right as these two meet again next week but on the No2 green.

Newly promoted All Stars were matched with Moldgreen and this proved to be the closest game of the weekend.

With two winners each, Linda Gledhill and Marie Lockwood were successful for All Stars and Andy Hoult, who was another to keep his unbeaten record intact, and Graham Sigsworth, on his Hove Edge debut, were winners for the Huddersfield team.

The final result being a 14-13 win for Moldgreen which consolidates their mid table position but All Stars need to pick up in the second half of the season to avoid bottom spot.

Cleckheaton Sports and Hanging Heaton were involved in another close match, John Ineson and Mick Armitage set the tone in the first game, Ineson just getting home 21-20. Gordon Bradford gave Heaton the edge as he beat Jack Glazzard 21-16 to put the Batley side in front 9-8. Dave Griffiths swung the game back in Sports favour 13-12 as he beat Steve Wainwright 21-17. It all came down to the last game and while it was close young Ryan Mitchell got Heaton over the line 17-15 as he just got the better of Dave Marshall 21-12.

Mirfield with all winners against Drighlington leap frogged them on the League Ladder to ease any relegation worries. A strong performance by Mel Stradling, Terry Varney, Graham Sheard and Brian Scarth with Charlie Wood the best for Drig.

In the Trophy long time leaders Hit & Miss could only muster one winner against West End as they went down 17-11. There were good wins for Geoff Price, Nigel Parker and Glenda Hartley, with Alan Standing the lone winner for Hit & Miss who hung on to top spot but the pack are gathering.

Oxenhope kept second place with a 17-9 win over Shroggs.

Ripponden had a welcome 17-8 win over King Cross, Mick Skwarek, Claire Broadbent and Kay Lund all had good wins. Terry Jackson, finding a bit of form of late, the only winner for Cross.

The final game found Old Bank too strong for Drighlington 2 as Mark Morton, Dave Sharp, Duncan Terry and Dave Bentley all had single figure wins in their 20-3 victory.

Lindley B C (Mick Thornton, Linda Gledhill, Tony Lockwood and Lynda Drury) faced a test as they faced favourites to move straight back up to the Shield, Greetland (Barry Sugden, Pete Lea, Gordon Bradford and Mick Shaw). Lindley were up and running after game one as Thornton beat Shaw 21-20 but that was as good as it got. Greetland had the next three winners to record a 19-14 victory. Linda Gledhill with nineteen was the best of the final three for Lindley.

Rastrick (Donald Booth, Peter Hardcastle, John Wood and Terry Leach) just got the better of Pellon (Robert Walker, Mark Bolton, Paul Firth and David Agnew) 16-13. While Rastrick had three of the winners the Pellon losers all scored well, hence the close result.
