In the opening Saturday Vase game Hanging Heaton (David Armitage, Steve Wainwright, Gordon Bradford and Ryan Mitchell) were paired with defending champions Mytholmroyd (Andy Gallagher, Paul Fisher, Scott McHugh and Mark Jeffries). Hanging Heaton laid down a marker for the season as they provided three of the four winners in Armitage, new recruit Bradford and Mitchell, captain Fisher, with a fine 21-6 win over Wainwright, was the defending champions only success in their 16-11 defeat.
Cleckheaton Sports (Jack Glazzard, Dave Griffiths, Dave Marshall and Andy Walker) could only muster one winner in Marshall as they went down 16-13 to Drighlington (Josh Gamble, Ann Billington, Dave Billington and Derek Goor)
Moldgreen (Trevor Atkinson, Andy Bairstow, Andy Hoult and Andy Wike) a team who haven’t fulfilled their potential in previous seasons started with a 18-12 win over Mirfield Old Bank (Brian Scarth, Mel Stradling, Terry Varney and Graham Sheard). Atkinson, Hoult and Wike were the winners for Moldgreen and Stradling for Mirfield.
Last years runners-up Shipley (Paul Wilczynski, Mike Gadd, Chris Bedford and Dave Bland) stated their intentions with a fine 19-9 win over newly promoted All Stars (Carol Harpin, Lynn Carter, Linda Gledhill and Lynda Drury). Drury the only winner for All Stars as she over came Bland 21-19 in a close game.
First up in the Trophy were Hit & Miss (Alan Standing, David Avery, Paul Lowry and Kath Standing) and Drighlington 2 (Dianne Hoole, Bruce Illingworth, Michelle Jeffrey and Mick Hopkins). A bit of green knowledge came out as Avery and the two Standings all had wins, Jeffrey replying for Drig and Hopkins carding twenty in defeat. 17-11 the overall score.
King Cross (Terry Jackson, Richard McFarlane, Graham Dewhirst and John Ashton) proved no match for the Old Bank Saturdays (Gary Morton, Dave Bentley, Mark Morton and Duncan Terry) team who provided all the winners in their 20-7 win.
There were the closest of games to finish the weekends program as Shroggs Park (Chris Meade Jnr, Mike Murray, Peter O’Callaghan and E Craven) against Sowerby West End (Glenda Hartley, N Parker, L Ellison and Geoff Price) and Ripponden (Mick Skwarek, Josh Craven, Kay Lund and Nick Oddy) against Oxenhope (Lyndon Harris, Dave Hemsley, Gordon Cox and Gary Bowdin) all ended in draws. All teams taking thirteen points to start the new winter season.
